Gossip is something I have seen ruin so many friendships inside and outside the church. It doesn't just end at ruining friendships, it also leaves a wound inside the person.  In Proverbs 6: 16-19 God says that one who spreads strife among brothers is an abomination to Him. There are so many people leaving the church because of the pain and hurt some people inside the church have caused them. It is so sad to see this happening to so many. How can we wonder why so many people role their eyes when we proclaim to be Christians? They see so many "Christians" hurting each other with their words. How can we blame them?

There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:

 1.Haughty eyes, 

2. A lying tongue, 

 3. Hands that shed innocent blood, 

4. A heart that devises wicked plans, 

5. Feet that run rapidly to evil, 

6. A false witness who utters lies, 

7. One who spreads strife among brothers. 

Proverbs 6:16 - 19  

 

Gossip is an abomination to Him. Yet it seems to be this plague so many Christians have today. We are losing sight of what is really important, which is to lead others to Christ.  How can we be leading people to Christ when we are hurting others with our words? When we gossip we push others away from God, because they see the strife inside the church, and between Christians. So not only are we hurting fellow believers and causing inner wounds that will last a life time. When we should be building them up and loving them like Christ loves us. Even if we don't agree with them all the time. We are causing other people we should be ministering to, to stay as far away from church and Christianity as possible. 

A perverse man stirs up dissension, and gossip separates close friends.
